The Qatari national football team has never qualified for the FIFA World Cup since the country’s independence in 1971. Although the national squad has never advanced past the World Cup quarterfinals, Qatar has routinely participated in the AFC Asian Cup. By hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup and not qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Qatar became the second nation to compete in the World Cup without being selected, after Italy in the FIFA World Cup of 1934.
In January 2022, FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized the need for additional improvements while also recognizing Qatar’s accomplishments in the areas of labor legislation, worker protection, and minimum wage. Since 2017, the Qatari government has been aiming to improve the working conditions for migrant workers.
Qatar has advanced significantly despite criticism, one of which was their unexpected triumph in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup. As seen by their success, they can pull off even more surprises during their first World Cup appearance.
The Ecuadorian national football team will have attended three FIFA World Cups, the pinnacle of international competition for national football teams, with a fourth trip planned for 2022. Ecuador made its World Cup debut in 2002. Their best performance was in 2006, however, they were eliminated in the Round of 16.
Between 1930 and 1938, Ecuador did not try to make the Football World Cup. Ecuador took part in the 1950 World Cup qualifying round before withdrawing. Senegal has taken part in two FIFA World Cups and has advanced to the quarterfinals both times, in 2002 and 2018. They were the only team in World Cup history to be eliminated using the fair play criteria after being tied with Japan on the first six tiebreakers.
After participating in two back-to-back World Cup finals in 1974 and 1978, the team’s longest World Cup streak-three straight matches-occurred in the 1990s. Two years after winning the European Championship there, the Netherlands was defeated by West Germany in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Euro 1990. Brazil defeated the Netherlands in the quarterfinals of the 1994 tournament. Brazil overcame Croatia in the play-off for third place after defeating the Netherlands in the 1998 semifinals. Argentina is one of the most successful national football teams in the world, having won the World Cup in 1978 and 1986. In the years 1930, 1990, and 2014, Argentina three times finished in second place. The group, who participated in all but four World Cups, ended third in terms of appearances, behind only Brazil and Germany (with the 2022 edition included, to be played).
Overall, Argentina and Uruguay have won the most Copa America games (15). Additionally, in 2004 and 2008, Argentina captured the gold medal, the Confederations Cup, and the Olympic football competitions. Two silver medals have previously been won by Argentina, one each from the Olympic Games in 1928 and 1996. Six times throughout various international competitions, Argentina has won the U-20 World Cup. Aside from the U-17 World Cup, Argentina has not triumphed in any other FIFA international competitions.
Saudi Arabia has competed in six FIFA World Cup tournaments, including 1994, 1998, 2002, 2006, 2018, and 2022 World Cups. Their best performance came in 1994 when they made it to the round of sixteen.
Since the first World Cup in 1930, Mexico has taken part in a total of 16 tournaments, but only three of those games in 1934 (against Italy), 1974 (against West Germany), and 1982—have led to a trip to the finals (Spain). As a result of utilizing players who were overaged during the youth competition for the 1988 Olympic Games qualifiers, it also withdrew from the finals in 1938 (France) and was banned by FIFA from participation in the 1990 World Cup (Italy).
Mexico pulled off one of the biggest upsets at the 2018 World Cup by defeating the defending champion Germany 1-0. Mexico and Brazil both made straight appearances in the second round.
Poland has participated in eight tournaments since the first World Cup in 1938, losing to Brazil in a gripping 5-6 thriller. 36 years after their first try, Poland finally made it into the World Cup, and when they did, they shocked everyone by upsetting England in the qualification round and finishing third twice in the 1974 and 1982 tournaments. After participating in 1986, Poland’s dominance in world football started to wane.
Since the country’s communist regime was overthrown in 1989, Poland has been able to qualify for 2002, 2006, and 2018 FIFA World Cups. However, following two straight losses, the team was unable to duplicate the success of its predecessors and failed to go past the group stage of all three championships.

Denmark entered the contest for the first time in the 1958 Swedish edition. However, they lost each of their four qualification games to England and Ireland.
They achieved their first-ever tournament berth in 1986 by winning all three of their Group Stage contests, including a 2-0 triumph over West Germany. However, Spain overcame them in the following round. The Danish national team has since taken part in the FIFA World Cup Finals, and in Qatar 2022, they will do so for a record-breaking sixth time. They were at their competitive peak in 1998, making it all the way to the quarterfinals.
Since competing in their first tournament in 1978, where they finished ninth, Tunisia has competed in five FIFA World Cup finals, including the one that is now underway on March 29. Between 1998 and 2006, they enjoyed a run of three Football World Cup qualifying matches. They will participate in the FIFA World Cup for the sixth time in Qatar in 2022. Tunisia, on the other side, has never advanced past the group stage.
The French squad won the World Cup for the first time in 1998. In the tournament’s championship game, France defeated Brazil at home 3-0. In 1938, France served as the host nation, but Italy, the eventual winner, upset France in the quarterfinals. France defeated Croatia 4-2 at the Luzhniki Stadium in Russia to win the World Cup for the second time in 2018.
In 2006, after a 120-minute match that ended in a 1-1 draw, Italy defeated France (5-3) on penalties. France finished in second place. The group also finished fourth once, in 1982, and third twice, in 1958 and 1986.
Between 1974 and 2022, Australia qualified for the FIFA World Cup finals six times: in 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022. Additionally, they have attempted fifteen times to reach the FIFA World Cup; their initial bid failed when they were defeated by North Korea in 1966.
A team from Australia made up entirely of amateur athletes participating in the OFC drew their opener against Chile without scoring, however, they were eliminated from the 1974 campaign without doing so. Australia made up for lost time at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, reaching the Round of 16, when they were barely upset by eventual champions Italy.

For Germany’s World Cup history, which encompasses three eras-West Germany (during the Nazi era), reunified Germany, and Germany-FIFA only considers teams coached by the Deutscher Fußball-Bund (during the period). Germany’s national football team is among the most successful with four titles, four second- or third-place finishes, four fourth-place finishes, and four FIFA World Cup victories. At least three more than any other nation, Germany has won twelve of the nineteen events. If a campaign finishes third or above, it is considered successful.
Japan has advanced to the FIFA World Cup finals seven times; the first time was in 1998 when they finished 31st overall after dropping all three of their group games. Masashi Nakayama scored Japan’s first-ever goal in a World Cup Finals game on June 26, 1998, a 2-1 loss to Jamaica. Keisuke Honda is the lone Japanese player to have scored in three World Cups (2010, 2014, and 2018).

Morocco has six different appearances in the FIFA World Cup finals: in 1970, 1986, 1994, 1998, 2018, and 2022. In 1986, when they made it to the round of 16, they performed at their best.
The Croatian national football team has participated in five FIFA World Cups since gaining independence in 1991. (In 1998, 2002, 2006, 2014, and 2018). Before that, from 1930 to 1990, Croatia was a part of Yugoslavia. They put up their best effort to date in 2018 final, which they lost to France 4-2.

The Canadian men’s soccer team took part in a FIFA World Cup game in 1986. One of the berths designated for the CONCACAF countries of North America in World Cup competitions has previously been refused to Canada. Canada qualified for the 2022 World Cup for the second time ever after a 36-year absence.
FIFA World Cup 2022 Schedule of Group G
According to the table below, Switzerland, Cameroon, Brazil, and Serbia will all compete in Group G games. Brazil will play Serbia at 00:30 on November 25 at Lusail Stadium, and Switzerland will play Cameroon at 15:30 on November 24 at Al Janoub Stadium. On November 28, four days later, at 15:30 in Al Janoub Stadium, Cameroon will take on Serbia, and at 21:30 in Stadium 974, Switzerland will take on Brazil. On December 2, both of the remaining two games in Group G Serbia vs. Switzerland at Stadium 974 and Cameroon vs. Brazil at Lusail Stadium will kick off at 00:30.

In the second finals of 1934, Switzerland made its first of eleven appearances in a World Cup final, finishing ninth. For the ninth time, they took part in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Cameroon’s first FIFA World Cup appearance was in 1982 when they finished 17th overall after drawing all three of their group games. Since then, they have taken part in the competition eight times. Cameroon made it to the quarterfinals in 1990 but fell to England 3-2. Roger Milla, who was 42 years old, broke the record for the oldest player to ever play in a World Cup final and still score at the 1994 FIFA World Cup. The record was established in 2014 by Colombia’s Faryd Mondragón, who took Milla’s place as the oldest player to score at the FIFA World Cup finals. They will participate in the FIFA World Cup for the eighth time in Qatar in 2022.
Brazil is the most successful national team in the history of the competition, having won five World Cups and finishing second, third, and fourth twice each. As the fourth country to win the Football World Cup outside of its own continent (after South Korea/Japan in 2002, Chile in 1962, Mexico in 1970, and the United States in 1994), Brazil joined Argentina, Spain, and Germany as winners of the tournament. The only national team to have participated in every FIFA World Cup without missing any matches or needing to go through a playoff round in Brazil. With 73 wins out of 109 games played, a goal differential of 124, 237 points, and only 18 losses, Brazil’s record at the World Cup has been the best overall, both proportionally and absolutely.
From the FIFA World Cup in 1930 until the FIFA World Cup in 1938, Serbia was a part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. From the 1950 FIFA World Cup to the 1990 FIFA World Cup, Serbia was a member of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. In every FIFA World Cup between 1994 and 2006, Serbia and Montenegro shared the pitch. Since 2006, Serbia has participated as a sovereign state. After being acknowledged by FIFA as the team’s successor, Serbia thereafter took over all of Yugoslavia’s records.

Uruguay, Ghana, Portugal, and Korea Republic are all participating in the 2022 FIFA World Cup’s final group, as shown in the table below. Starting on November 24, Uruguay plays the Korea Republic at 13:00 at Education City Stadium, while Portugal takes on Ghana at 16:00 on Stadium 974. On November 28, four days later, Korea Republic plays Ghana at 13:00 at Education City Stadium, and Portugal plays Uruguay at 19:00 at Lusail Stadium. On December 2 at 15:00, the final two Group H matches will take place; the first will pit Ghana and Uruguay against each other at Al Janoub Stadium, while the second will pit Portugal against Korea Republic at Education City Stadium.

Uruguay has won four FIFA-sponsored World Football Championships. Prior to that, only European teams participated in the Olympic football competition. They also triumphed in the inaugural FIFA World Championship, which was organized by the Olympic Committee. The 1930 and 1950 FIFA World Cups, which were held separately from the Olympic Games and featured rules outlining the difference between professional and amateur football players, both included Uruguayan participation (Jules Rimet Trophy). Since FIFA’s actual international competition began in 1924, the governing body recognises Uruguay as a four-time world champion and allows the team to wear four stars on their uniforms during official international football matches.
South Korea has participated in the FIFA World Cup ten times. The team competed in every tournament from its debut in 1954 till 1986. At the 2002 competition, which South Korea and Japan shared hosting duties with, they achieved their best-ever performance of fourth place as the first team from outside of Europe and the Americas to reach the semifinals. Portugal has qualified for the FIFA World Cup finals seven times; the first time, in 1966, they came in third. Ghana has qualified for four FIFA World Cup competitions: 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022 editions.
In 2006, they were the only African team to go past the group stage of the FIFA World Cup, making it the continent’s sixth straight victory. Ghana had the youngest team at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, with a median age of 23 years and 352 days. Ghana won praise for their excellent play. According to FIFA’s rankings, Ghana was ranked thirteenth out of the thirty-two competing countries.
